After years of determination and persistence, Wanzl have successfully secured the passenger handling contract at Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL), with the largest single order ever made of over 12,000 baggage trolleys.
Heathrow Airport is the largest UK airport and the third busiest in the world serving almost 70 million passengers during 2012, making this one of the most prestigious contract wins for Wanzl.
Jon Hibbins, Account Manager for the HAL project said that the trolley to be supplied is an updated version of a Combi C400 that has been extensively developed to suit Heathrow Airport’s operational, environmental and performance requirements. “Manoeuvrability was vital especially the trolley’s ability for snaking – the tight, combined movements when a number of trolleys are nested together.”
“The key elements to winning this contract was world-renowned Wanzl quality and our passion and persistence over many years to ensure that we delivered exactly the right solution for HAL. We made sure we listened to their requirements throughout the development process and worked hard to build a strong relationship right from the start.”
The passenger handling trolleys are due to be delivered to HAL in February 2014 and includes a 5-year maintenance package. This breakthrough contract has secured the largest share of the UK passenger handling trolley market and strengthened Wanzl’s position as the global leader for high quality airport equipment solutions.
